About Christer Myrene

Black and white photo of a person taking a photo in an ornate oval mirror, set against a background of climbing plants on a trellis.

I am a photographer based in Halden, Norway, working primarily with black and white photography in a consistent square format. My work is rooted in a slow and deliberate approach, most often using analog cameras and traditional processes.

I photograph landscapes, bridges, and everyday surroundings, as well as Elisabeth, who frequently appears as a recurring subject in my work. Much of my photography takes place close to where I live, with repeated returns to places such as Vrångsholmen in Sweden, and occasional longer stays in Nice, France, where photography becomes part of daily life rather than a separate activity.

What interests me most is the challenge of translating perception into an image. Not everything that is seen can be photographed, but when feeling and observation align, an image can begin to carry what was present in the moment.

I mainly work with an old Agfa Isolette III, and Kodak Tri-X is my preferred film. While my practice is predominantly analog, digital photography is used occasionally when it serves the work.
